Gary Coyle’s Grade 8 Humanities

Humanities explores four themes, one per quarter, that address the concept of power. During first quarter we focus on the industrial revolution and its impact on power. From the assembly line to the digital divide, students will examine the history and effect of industrialization. Literary selections to highlight this theme include The Outsiders, The Jungle, How the Other Half Lives and a variety of short readings. Students will begin to polish their reading, writing, speaking, and research skills through a variety of different activities including the industrial revolution newspaper. It’s a full quarter packed with skills, new ideas and paradigm shifts, so hang on to your keyboards and away we go! PLEASE NOTE: Unless you have an excused absence LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED. Additionally, all work must be printed BEFORE CLASS or it is considered late.
